Three words that perfectly fit my progression throughout my bachelor college are ‘watch’, ‘learn’ and ‘execute’. My personal version of ‘trial and error’ has brought me to the point I am today. This way of learning is reflected in study-related progression and activities such as sports. I like to challenge myself into learning new things and apply this new knowledge in other projects and activities. It might not always be the fastest learning method, but I do not stop until I understand what is going on. This eagerness allows me to dive deeply into small processes, as seen during the course ‘Sensors for Physiology’ (DBB170). During this course, I was in charge of the entire prototype including programming the device. Quickly did the small project turn to me pulling all-nighters willing to understand everything and put my own twist to the project.
By developing a general understanding of all the processes involved in designing, I hope to become an all-round-expert. The course that could trigger my interests the most this year was 'Design management' (DZB110). With the use of role-play, we as a group were able to play the role of a client getting in touch with a company. We could suggest marketing options with a clear understanding of the company's vision and values.
Of all the design-related courses we were offered in our program, did one jump out. The course 'Trends and Forecasting' (DZB170) taught us the necessities to enter the world of design. Through the language of design was Z. Skalska able to tell us more about the application of design in society and why envisioning the same goals is so important. Although I thought the course was slightly too focused on architectural designers, I was able to learn a lot from similar situations.
