Watch, Learn and Implement, the learning motto described in my identity, was inspired on the process my Dad often takes. In which he like to replicate behaviour or actions people with more experience take as a way to shortcut the learning pathway. Throughout my Industrial Design college, I could see myself implement a similar approach, and become excited by pace of the progression I was making. I liked to combine projects and new skills together, as was visible in the last semester where I could use NFC tags in the course ‘Design for Behaviour Change’, as well as in my Final Master Project in completely different types of application. Immediately exploring to what extent the newly learned skill could be useful.
Within my Bachelor’s degree, I found myself working with People with Dementia (PwD). An exciting new group that required different approaches to design, learning the importance of the skills learned in the User & Society area. Besides the newly found excitement, I had no prior experience working with PwD, until my grandmother was diagnosed with dementia. I found the importance of design in this field from my own experiences and translated that into designing for PwD in my Final Bachelor Project. Within my Master’s, I became more focused on the communication experiences with people with dementia, as this was a difficulty experienced throughout my FBP. Considering my interests in the topics Healthcare, Technology and Innovation, this environment of dementia care was able to fit perfectly in my interests area, with the ambition to design for the healthcare community.
